At the Table
By Invitation Only
I was at a dinner party last week where 17 people, who didn’t all know each other, gathered around the table for a delicious meal, some memorable wines, and a wide-range of engaging conversations about all sorts of things except the current state of politics that we’ve been thinking and talking too much about for too long. Although there was the occasional quiet nod to anyone on the long list of bad guys and bad deeds, the bad guys remained uninvited and didn’t find a seat at the table. And when anyone stood up to say an unrehearsed something, give a toast, and clink glasses, it was a similar theme of what matters most that we sometimes lose sight of and occasionally need to be reminded of, as everyone here was. It was an evening full of love, appreciation, and gratitude for all of the good things, including this gathering, and everyone embraced as they departed, and the darkness (that) surrounds us, as Robert Creeley wrote, was actually a beautiful night sky. Happy Mother’s Day.

It is very hard not to have your head stuck in this mush 24/7. Good to just have a nice dinner with friends and enjoy each other‘s company.
