Masks Off
To Protect and to Serve?
How many heavily-armed masked men in camo-gear does it take to hog-tie a brown guy and drag him away even though they aren’t sure who he is or what he’s done? This is an actual question, not an ethnic joke, although maybe it could be if we were talking about light bulbs. Either way, my guess is at least a dozen, along with a traveling troupe of content creators with cameras in charge of constructing the proper narrative for their theatrical recruitment campaign and telling a very different story than the one we just witnessed. Probably not the most efficient use of taxpayer money but that’s how they’re rolling, with impunity and immunity says an angry guy in the White House, and nobody has been able to put the brakes on them yet. As for the masks—a tool they apparently need to keep them and their families safe, as opposed to the obvious fear, lack of courage, and cowardice—it’s time to step out from behind them. As Mark Hertling wrote in The Bulwark, Democracy must always have a face and a name, which this one now does—Jonathan Ross.
Here’s today’s Bulwark episode with Mark Hertling:
