Before the Fall

The Greek myths have lessons for us, said Ian Bassin talking about the head of the current regime and how evidence is suggesting he’s more like Icarus than any historical political figure, and that’s why he’ll get thrown out of power. My White House Letter Writing Friend penned another one earlier this year suggesting a similar fate. Since you don’t seem to be a practicing Christian, you probably don’t know the quote from the bible regarding ego and pride: "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18. And I doubt that you remember, from 8th grade Greek mythology, the story of Icarus who thought he was powerful enough to fly with the Gods and fashioned wings of feathers and wax. He was so prideful and sure of his own importance that he flew close to the sun which melted the wax of his phony wings and he plummeted to his death. Let’s just say that your obnoxious displays of hubris will no doubt have a similar ending and I can’t wait. And wait we will, but maybe not for as long as we thought we’d have to.
